The standard we build to

This site is built to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That is the benchmark the Australian Human Rights Commission references under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.

What that means in practice

  • Body text is set at 17px in Atkinson Hyperlegible Next, a typeface drawn by the Braille Institute so that similar letters stay distinguishable to readers with low vision.
  • Text contrast meets 4.5:1, and 3:1 for large text and interface components.
  • Every interactive element has a visible keyboard focus indicator.
  • There is a skip-to-content link at the top of every page.
  • Every form field has a label attached to it, and errors name both the problem and the fix.
  • Touch targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels.
  • Animation is gentle and limited: a soft background wash, the logo assembling itself at the top of the home page, and the shaded area on the service map. All of it stops if your device asks for reduced motion.
  • There is a Reduce motion button at the bottom of every page. It turns that movement off and remembers your choice, whether or not your device has a setting for it.
  • There is no CAPTCHA. They are a documented barrier for people with cognitive and visual disability.

Known limitations

We would rather name these than pretend they are not there.

  • The service-area map is visual. Everything it shows is also written out beside it: Geelong and surrounding areas, the Bellarine, the Surf Coast, Golden Plains and Colac.
  • The NDIS and aged care referral forms are provided by our practice management system, Splose, and open on its website. We cannot vouch for their accessibility the way we can for this site. If either is hard to use, call or email us and we will take the referral that way.

Ask us for another format

If anything on this site is difficult to use, or you would like information in another format, call us on 0409 405 017 or email info@geelongot.com.au. Tell us what would work better for you and we will send it that way.
